Induction Poster

The executive board for the Kappa Epsilon at-Large chapter of Sigma invites you to submit abstracts and/or attend the
2022 Fall Research Event.

The event will take place on Wednesday, October 19 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm EST via Zoom.  Dr. Brianna Chesser from the Physical Therapy department of GVSU will facilitate "Implicit Bias in Nursing and Healthcare."  Implicit Bias training and education is a licensure requirement for RNs. A poster session will follow the keynote and CEU's are available for RNs. Students are welcome to attend though registration is limited to the first 40!  Participation is free but please click Registration
 to register. 

Poster Abstracts are being accepted until October 5 with determination by October 15; all research, evidence-based practice, active or experiential learning approaches, PICO/literature review and quality improvement projects or initiatives will be considered.

The 350-word abstract must include the following key elements:

  • Problem: Describe the health care issue the literature review addresses. Provide support for the significance of the problem.
  • Purpose: State the objectives of this inquiry relative to the overall evidence-based literature review on this topic.
  • Search Strategy: Identify databases searched, and inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Results of literature search: Describe the search, number of studies included, and level of evidence. Include a summary table of your evidence in the poster.
  • Synthesis of Evidence: Briefly describe the synthesis of the evidence that includes major trends and notable gaps.
  • Implications for Practice: Include your recommendations for practice or future research based on the review and synthesis of the evidence.
Presenter Information: Posters will be presented digitally via a Zoom Platform. Posters must be created using a PowerPoint slide or equivalent. Presenters will have 10 minutes to present their poster, including time for questions.

Title of Presentation
Objectives:
Include 2-3 objectives for learner outcomes: measurable terms; one action per outcome per objective.  Avoid the use of and, or and multiple expectations in one objective.
Content (Topic) Outline: Provide an outline of the content/topic and indicate to which objective the content is related. Each objective must have directly related content outlined that is more than a restatement of the objective. Please use an outline format.  Avoid sentences and paragraph descriptions. Include a Time Frame in minutes for each objective/topic and who will present the content. Include the Teaching Strategy to be used for each topic.

References:  Please list at least 3 references for each objective.

Research Grant Application Information

Chapter members can submit an application for a research grant up until April 1 in the Spring and then until November 1 in the Fall.  Award amounts vary based on the number of applications received, amounts requested, and funds available.  The amount of the grant may vary up to $1500.  The application form is available here and in our library.  Applications may be submitted to eb36@calvin.edu.

  • 2022 Kappa Epsilon at-Large Chapter Nursing Excellence Award

    Do you know of a nurse co-worker that goes above and beyond what is expected of them.  Maybe they create evidence-based teaching experiences, mentor students or colleagues, lead productive scholarly endeavors.  If you know of someone who may fit these or other marks of excellence, consider nominating them for a 2022 Excellence in Nursing Award.  Winners will be announced during the 2022 Induction Ceremony later this fall.  Attached is the nomination form.  Don't delay, nominate today!
  • 100 Minutes of Service for 100 years of Excellence!

    In honor of Sigma's 100 years of excellence, we challenge our members to provide 100 minutes of service to the organization of your choice by October 17th. We would love to share your activities during our October 19th Fall Research Event (registration is live on this site!). We would also love to hear about your service and share opportunities to serve in our chapter at our Founders Day Happy Hour Oct. 5 (see information on this site in Chapter News!). Share your service with our current president Luanne Shaw via email shawlu@gvsu.edu or post on our Face Book Page. We look forward to here where and how you are serving our communities.
  • Celebrate Founders Day with Kappa Epsilon at Large and 100 years of excellence for Sigma!

    Founders day is coming up October 5th in celebration of the formation the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, now known as Sigma. Learn about our history here. Join us for a "Founders" happy hour at Founders Brewing Co. (235 Grandville Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503) Wednesday October 5, 2022 between 3 and 6 pm. Drinks and food at your own expense, socializing, information sharing and networking free! Please RSVP to shawlu@gvsu.edu so we can determine if enough interest to reserve a separate room.
